There was excitement and achievement at Oasis Academy Brightstowe today as Year 11 students collected their GCSE results, marking the end of one chapter and the beginning of the next.

Students celebrated outcomes, reflecting not only their academic achievements but also the resilience, perseverance, and determination. The gaps between students with both SEND and from lower income families to the whole cohort narrowed from summer 2025 results. 100% of students taking separate sciences and Spanish received grades in their GCSEs, individual students achieving the top grade 9 (or equivalent) in Computer Science, English Literature, History, Health and Social Care, Science and Sport Studies.

At Oasis Academy Brightstowe, student success extends far beyond examination results. The academy is committed to developing confident, resilient, and well-rounded young people, providing a wealth of opportunities both inside and outside the classroom. Students are supported to discover their strengths, pursue their ambitions, and overcome challenges, all within a caring and inclusive environment where they are known, valued, and encouraged to thrive.

There were many individual successes today, though inevitably some disappointment too. The Brightstowe journey is completed for year 11, and year 10 will learn from their successes and the factors that limited their achievement. We want every student to maximise their potential and believe as a community together we can support future years to even greater success.

Among those celebrating today was Joseph, who achieved an impressive set of results, including eight GCSEs at grade 8 and 9, and will now progress to study T level in Cyber Security at City Bristol College.

Another standout student, Iryna, also achieved excellent results, securing eight grade 5+ GCSEs, including a grade 8 in Maths, and taking the next step towards their ambition of studying at St Bedes A-Levels in Maths, Psychology & Economics.

Iryna said: ''I am very pleased with my GCSE results and proud of the hard work I have put in to achieve them. I am now really looking forward to the next stage of my education and would love the opportunity to study at St Bedes. In the long term I would like to focus on Accounting and pursue a career in this field.''

Speaking about this year’s results, Rachel Hopwood, Principal of Oasis Academy Brightstowe, said:

“These results reflect not only their academic success but also the resilience to keep going, determination to attend, and character to support each other, shown by students throughout their time at Brightstowe.

Every student’s journey is unique, and it has been inspiring to see them overcome challenges, support one another, and grow into confident young people who are ready for the next stage of their education and future careers.

I would like to thank our dedicated staff and supportive families for the important role they have played in helping our students succeed. We wish them every success as they take their next steps.”

As students prepare for the exciting opportunities ahead, the Oasis Academy Brightstowe community joins together in congratulating the Class of 2026 on their achievements and wishing them continued success in whatever path they choose to follow.
