Coronavirus update: Partial closure of academy from Thursday 19th March

Following announcements from the Department for Education and Boris Johnson’s coronavirus briefing yesterday, the criteria for staying at home and social distancing has become more stringent. This has had a significant impact on our current staffing levels including teachers, learning support assistance, pastoral care team, administration workers and other support staff.

Unfortunately, this means that from tomorrow we will not have enough staff available to support all year groups within the school.

From Thursday 19th March the school will be open as normal for years 7, 8 and 11. We have prioritised Year 11 owing to their impending examinations. Years 7 and 8 are the youngest year groups and legally require parental supervision at home, so we have prioritised them in order to ease the burden on working parents and carers.

For Students in Years 9 and 10 the school will be closed for the rest of this week

For parents/carers who work for the NHS or emergency services and are not able to make arrangements to supervise their children safely, we are happy for those children to attend school, providing everyone at home is fit and well. They will not be attending normal timetabled lessons, but will be supervised and provided with suitable work. If you need your child to attend school we request that parents/carers call or e-mail your Assistant Head of year by 8am. The students should report to the Library on arrival.

For students who are working from home, work will be provided by teachers on Show My Homework and they should ensure they complete all the work set to the best of their ability. We issued a letter yesterday with guidance about how to access this from home, and you can find a copy on our website. https://www.oasisacademybrightstowe.org/community/coronavirus-updates

Please appreciate this is an incredibly busy time for our reception and pastoral team who need to be able to deal with high priority situations when they arise. Please only call if you have an urgent query or to notify us of absence - we will keep you updated on opening arrangements for future weeks once we have received guidance from the Department of Education, and with any new information as and when we have it.

Yours faithfully

Mr S Clayson

Interim Principal
