Exceptional Education at the Heart of the Community

Teaching and Learning

Education Philosophy

There is only one 21st century skill. And that is the ability to act intelligently when you are faced with a situation for which you have not been prepared.

Seymour Pappert (1993)

In an ever-changing and highly competitive global community, it is more imperative than ever to teach our students the skills they need to flourish.

They need to be resilient, adaptable and able to think so that they can solve complicated problems and challenges that they may well come their way as adults.

We believe that developing the skills our students need, will enable them to be lifelong learners that can achieve well beyond GCSEs.

Getting GCSE grades 9 to 5 is a product of high quality teaching and learning; GCSE grades in their own right do not come before the quality of learning. Obtaining grades by themselves without these underpinning skills does not meet the needs of our students who entrust their futures in us.

The 12 Pillars outlines our Teaching and Learning policy at Oasis Academy Brightstowe.
