Enrichment
Creativity is important to Oasis Academy Brightstowe. We feel that helping students develop skills and talents outside of their academic interests broadens them as individuals.
Not all our usual enrichment activities may currently be running because of Covid-19, but we will make sure that students still have access to enrichment activities wherever possible.
Rowing Academy
We have established an excellent Rowing Academy. We train hard in the mornings and love getting out on the water. We have a great association with the City of Bristol Rowing Club and have expert training and coaching support from them.
Girls' Football Academy
The Girls' Football Academy aims to provide students with an opportunity to develop qualities such as teamwork, discipline and resilience alongside improving their football skills. The academy has gone from strength to strength in recent years with our U16 team reaching the final 32 in the English Schools National Cup. Students are given rewards and opportunities including trips and coaching from professional players and coaches.
Rugby Academy
The Rugby Academy aims to provide students with an opportunity to develop qualities such as discipline, resilience and independence alongside improving their rugby skills. Students will be given rewards and opportunities including trips and guest coaching sessions from professional players. The students will also receive conditioning sessions and the opportunity to join Bristol Rugby players development programme.
Music Academy
Our Music Academy has been developed in order to be a centre of excellence for music that raises the aspirations, improves motivation and self-esteem and increases outcomes for students.
Music education is important in that it provides students with opportunities to think imaginatively and creatively using a variety of skills that they would not otherwise engage elsewhere. Young people strongly identify with music, often embracing it as part of their social identity. At Oasis Academy Brightstowe we seek to nurture this interest and help them develop as confident individuals with a high level of dedication to their musical study.
We believe that music is an essential part of a varied curriculum and that through it every student is capable of developing confidence, a positive well-being and a belief that they can achieve success. By developing an outstanding supplementary programme of musical study we are enabling those that are most dedicated the opportunity to take their talent to the next level.
The Music Academy has been set up to support students who demonstrate this strong commitment to excellence in order to help them develop their talents. It exists not only to help provide dedicated tuition but to facilitate opportunities to showcase their abilities in a variety of performance situations.
There are many opportunities to become involved in music and performing arts at Oasis Academy Brightstowe and anyone who has participated will attest to the challenge involved and the serious commitment required in order to succeed and achieve. The opportunities include:
- Chamber concerts
- Informal recitals
- Ensemble work
- Individual & group tuition
- Professional masterclasses
- Showcase events
The Music Academy benefits from a number of relationships with professional musicians including the musical and artistic residency of BCreative and WorldStage in conjunction with WOMAD.
Duke of Edinburgh Awards
The Duke of Edinburgh Awards scheme is designed to develop character and employability skills outside the classroom, and to instill an appreciation of the natural world. The awards require students to engage in a physical activity, skilled activity and volunteering activity, as well as undertake a camping expedition, and runs at three levels, Bronze, Silver and Gold.
We are hoping to continue to grow our Duke of Edinburgh Awards scheme over the coming years. If you would like to know more about how you can help or support us in this – with finance, time, donated equipment, or anything else, please contact hello@oasisbrightstowe.org
