The new show, which will be all about ideas, creativity and imagination, has called for children aged between 9 and 12 years of age to send in their ideas for new inventions or ways of doing things. The show intends to then pick the best concepts and bring them to life on air.
To encourage students to come up with an idea, the Year 7 classes took part in a lesson where they learnt about famous inventors and useful inventions throughout history. They then had to brainstorm their own particular idea and sketch out what it might do, who it could be for and how it was going to work.
Many innovative and wonderful ideas were thought up; one student designed a portable bin that would wheel around public areas ensuring that there was always a somewhere to throw rubbish; another came up with the idea of a highly flexible armchair for elderly people that allowed them to move easily if they needed to reach something or stand up.
Each student presented his or her idea to the class and then all the inventions were put to the vote. The winners were Dominic Fowler, who designed a ‘drink-aware car’ which required the driver to pass a breath test before the engine would switch on, and Craig Elliott and Kieran Johnson who came up with the concept of a headset that let you browse online using a pair of glasses.
Head of Year 7 Adam Knight said: “I was very impressed with the innovative and often technologically advanced inventions that the students came up with. I particularly a rather luxurious Jacuzzi-bath one student designed!
“This challenge was a fantastic way to get the students thinking creatively but also practically. Thinking about the purpose and audience of their inventions helped them to develop their ideas in a strategic way, and having to explain them to their classmates was a good exercise in communication and presentation skills.
“The winners have now had their ideas sent off to production company Shine TV and who knows - perhaps they will get in touch to speak to the students about them!”
Aye mate! And welcome to limbo! Problem: I have no idea what page you're trying to work on. You need to define a body ID in the template, then turn on the necessary rows and columns in layout.css. Arrrrgh!
