Bright Future for Brightstowe Footballer

Shaquille is currently captain of the Brightstowe Year 10 Boys Football Team and has been playing with the Under 15s team of Bristol Rovers FC for the last year.

He was spotted as a talented player by a scout from the professional club and invited for trials where he was signed up to the youth team.

He trains at the Bristol Rovers FC Centre of Excellence on a Monday and a Wednesday and plays matches against local teams on Saturday. He currently studies BTEC Sport at the Academy.

Shaquille said: "I'm really proud to be able to play for Bristol Rovers - it's a big thing for me. We train hard and I learn a lot and I try to bring that back to the Academy team.

"I just played a match against Plymouth for the Under 16s and really hope that I've done enough to be picked for the team when I am old enough. I want to carry on all the way to the top and make the first team when I leave school."

Head of PE Karl Robottom said: "Shaquille is a credit to the Academy and the Football Team and we are sure he will go far.

"He is a keen sportsman and tackles every activity with enthusiasm and energy. As well as his training with Bristol Rovers, Shaquille is a committed team captain and does his best to spur his teammates onto success.

"Earlier this month, Shaquille was granted permission to play a match during the Academy day and even though we weren't expecting him back in the evening, he still showed up to play for the Academy team, and it is that dedication and commitment which makes us sure he will be successful in the future."
