The event was aimed at Year 5 and 6 pupils and was attended by Shirehampton Primary, Sea Mills Primary, Avon Primary, Avonmouth Primary and Stoke Bishop Primary.
Led by Jess Griffiths, Aceson Holly and Scott Jenkins, the BTEC students arranged basketball demonstrations from members of Filton College Basketball Academy and organised for the primary pupils to have some coaching with the players.
The 10 and 11 year-olds learnt about the rules of the game, before being organised into inter-school tournaments by the BTEC students where they could practise their newly learnt skills. The evening was rounded off by a certificate presentation for the children who took part.
Head of PE, Karl Robottom said: “This is the second year that BTEC Sport students from Oasis Academy Brightstowe have organised the Primary Basketball Festival and continues to be a very successful event.
“It gave our students a useful opportunity to put their sports leadership skills into practice and gave them valuable experience of coaching younger pupils which will help towards their BTEC qualification, as well as encouraging strong links with our feeder primary schools.
“All the students had a part to play, whether it was marking the courts, keeping score or organising drinks and refreshments, and all those involved should feel very proud of their efforts.”
Event leader Jess Griffiths said: “I think the festival went really well, and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves, especially the primary school pupils.
“We were all conscious that we were representing Oasis Academy Brightstowe and we wanted the younger pupils to have a positive experience of the school.
“We put a lot of hard work and effort into organising the event and it has been really rewarding.”

Aye mate! And welcome to limbo! Problem: I have no idea what page you're trying to work on. You need to define a body ID in the template, then turn on the necessary rows and columns in layout.css. Arrrrgh!
