Theatre Trip to The Tobacco Factory

The day was designed to give students an insight into different careers, and an understanding of how businesses operate. The students who went were all keen actors, who had been involved in Academy drama productions in the past.

Firstly, they were taken on a tour of the theatre, which was set up in the last remaining site of the Old Wills Tobacco Factory in 1998. They got to look around backstage, including the dressing rooms, and the wings, and then watched a film about the history of the theatre.

The students were introduced to various different members of theatre staff, including the director, the stage manager, the box-office manager and the marketing manager to find out what they do and how their roles contribute to the running of a theatre. They also learnt about how ticket sales, show promotion and events management are key components in the success of the theatre.

The budding actors were then lucky enough to take part in a two-hour workshop led by an actor from the theatre’s current production of Shakespeare’s ‘The Tempest’. They got to ask the actor about his career and learnt lots of theatrical techniques. They then got to work on a scene from ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ and look at costumes and props from ‘The Tempest’, including traying on the masks and playing with some fake blood!

Aye mate! And welcome to limbo! Problem: I have no idea what page you're trying to work on. You need to define a body ID in the template, then turn on the necessary rows and columns in layout.css. Arrrrgh!
