Oasis Academy Brightstowe students were recently provided with a rare treat when Olympic Hopeful Dai Greene visited the school. Dai is the reigning World, European, Commonwealth and European Cup 400m Hurdle Champion. His visit to the Academy was made possible by the Wells Sports Foundation’s Athletes 4 Schools programme.
Recently a group of Year 6 students from Sea Mills Primary made a special visit to Oasis Academy Brightstowe. They were participating in a special Science Day event which focused on our solar system.

Oasis Academy Brightstowe is pleased to announce that £1,000 have been donated by The Bristol Port Company towards the Duke of Edinburgh Award for the Academy’s Student Leadership programme. The funds will be used to purchase equipment so that the students, 25 in all, will be able to undertake the Duke of Edinburgh expedition.

Maths Alive 2 is the follow-up to last year’s popular Maths Alive programme in which Year 6 students engage in a full day of fun, interactive activities involving maths.

The assortment of Year 7 students dressed in pirate ensembles recently performed the musical “Perfect Pirates: The Story of Anne Bonny and Mary Read” before a group of Oasis Academy Brightstowe parents, students and staff.
Students at Oasis Academy Brightstowe recently enjoyed a special assembly led by ‘Gases in the Air’ of Bristol ChemLabS, University of Bristol. Gases in the Air is an educational lecture-demonstration which focuses on introducing students to the different gases in the air and some of their properties.

45 per cent of students at Oasis Academy Brightstowe have achieved grades A* - C in their maths GCSEs, according to results published today. The results represent a 15 per cent increase on 2010 levels for the specialist maths and ICT academy in Shirehampton which, less than three years ago, was in ‘Special Measures’.
The lights dimmed. Cameras flashed.Applause burst from the crowd as the award winner’s name was called out. Oasis Academy Brightstowe hosted its first annual Academy Awards in true Hollywood style. The event featured a pre- Awards reception with servers mingling amongst the guests and offering canapés and sparkling beverages. During the reception guests enjoyed lovely works of art which were on display in the corridor, courtesy of the Academy’s Year 10 and 11 students.

Oasis Academy Brightstowe’s recent sports day was one for the record books. The Academy’s five houses competed in Olympic-style athletic events including the long jump, javelin, shop putt, high jump, and the ever popular track events. In a display of athletic prowess, this year’s competitors broke 30 existing school records – some of which have been in place since 2008 when Oasis Academy Brightstowe was established.
New friends, new teachers, new uniforms. Going from primary school to secondary school is a BIG change! In order to make the move from primary to secondary school an easy one for incoming Year 7 students, Oasis Academy Brightstowe conducts Transition Days for Year 6 students who are planning on attending the Academy to help those students get a taste of what secondary school is like.
The 2nd Annual Oasis Academy Fun Run is on its way! Mark your calendars because this is one event you will not want to miss. It promises to be fun for the whole family - even the whole block! So, get the kids out of the house for some great food, exciting Zumba dancing, tug-of-war, penalty shoot-out and, of course, the Fun Run!
Recently members of Bristol Police’s armed response unit and two dog teams conducted demonstrations at Oasis Academy Brightstowe. Year 7 students were shown the speed with which police dogs can find objects they are searching for or chase down a fleeing suspect. The dog handlers explained to the students how police dogs are chosen and trained for the work. Police dog handlers work alone, they explained, their dog is their partner.
The quality of teaching at Oasis Academy Brightstowe has been rated as ‘securely good’ following its first full Ofsted inspection. Ofsted rates the Shirehampton academy as ‘good’ in all categories, except for ‘leadership and management’ where the level is deemed to be ‘outstanding’.
