Oasis Academy Brightstowe students have been running a unique ‘Bully-Counselling’ service for the last year and now have an established presence around the Academy.
The service is driven by a group of student volunteers, who run a ‘drop-in’ centre twice a week during break-times and lunch-times, where they offer a listening ear and friendly advice for those who are experiencing bullying.
The ‘Bully Counsellors’ have been trained by the Avon & Somerset Police in ‘Restorative Justice’ techniques which help them to solve issues and disputes and are supported in their efforts by the Learning Mentors.
Member of the Oasis Academy Bristol ‘Student Voice’ anti-bullying forum were welcomed into the Academy and enjoyed a tour around Brightstowe, before taking part in some team-building exercises to get to know each other.
The two groups of students then gave presentations to inform each other about the work they have been doing to combat bullying in each Academy.
Learning Mentor Georgina Doutre said: “Both groups of students learnt a lot from hearing each others experiences and are keen to work together in the future.”
“Our students are keen to do more to combat bullying and have even talked about producing an informative DVD to share with other Oasis Academies.”

Aye mate! And welcome to limbo! Problem: I have no idea what page you're trying to work on. You need to define a body ID in the template, then turn on the necessary rows and columns in layout.css. Arrrrgh!
