Year 7 Trip to Goblin Coombe

The Goblin Coombe environment centre in Cleeve is set in stunning woodlands and offers a programme of educational activities for schools which teach young people about the natural environment.

Students were instructed in basic bushcraft skills including how to build shelters in the woods and the safest way to practise fire-lighting. They were also set various group challenges and trust exercises which taught them communication skills and tested their problem solving abilities.

The trip was intended to enhance the key aims of the Opening Minds curriculum, which all Academy students follow. This 21st century curriculum focuses on developing the competencies of learning, citizenship, relating to people, managing situations and managing information.

Head of Opening Minds, Adam Knight said: “The students had a great time at Goblin Coombe and enjoyed getting out in the fresh air and exploring the woodlands.

“Team-building activities such as these really help to build students confidence and social skills which all work towards improving transition and ultimately preparing them for their futures.

“They all seemed to enjoy themselves and hopefully we will see the benefits of their developed team work skills in the new term!”

Aye mate! And welcome to limbo! Problem: I have no idea what page you're trying to work on. You need to define a body ID in the template, then turn on the necessary rows and columns in layout.css. Arrrrgh!
