Academy Launches DVD

Filmed and edited entirely on the Academy site, the DVD was produced as part of a pack designed to give 10 and 11 year olds from local primary schools an insight into Academy life.

The DVD guides viewers through some of the excellent facilities Oasis Academy Brightstowe has to offer such as state of the art computing equipment and great sports provision.

Filming the DVD also gave Principal Julie Winterman the chance to extend a warm welcome to local parents and the opportunity to share news of recent Academy achievements, like the 50% increase of students achieving 5+ A – C grades in subjects including maths and English last year.

The short film stars Head Boy Luke Saunders and Head Girl Natasha Simpson-McArdle alongside Year 11 students Katie Andrews, Jade Harvey and Daniel Ward, who all gave interviews on camera about what being part of Oasis Academy Brightstowe meant to them.

Year 11 student Katie Andrews from Avonmouth said: “I was happy to be involved in the DVD because I wanted to tell students at local primary schools all the good things about Oasis Academy Brightstowe. Since being here, I’ve been lucky enough to go on an amazing trip with the netball team and I wanted to share that experience.”

Head Girl Natasha Simpson-McArdle from Shirehampton is used to being a spokesperson for her Academy, but it was the first time she had been on camera. She said: “I’d never done anything like this before and I was a bit nervous at first, but it was a good experience. I am hoping to pursue a career in politics, so it was a good opportunity to practice my public speaking!”

GCSE student Daniel Ward from Sea Mills however, was anything but nervous and even got to know the film crew on the day. He said: “It’s my ambition to be a photographer, so I was really interested in all the equipment that the cameraman brought with him. He showed me some basic filming techniques and let me practise with the camera. I am hoping to organise some work experience with him before I start college.”

If you would like to see the DVD and learn more about your local Academy, you can request a copy for FREE by contacting PR & Marketing Support Officer Laura Hope on 07751800670 or emailing laura.hope@oasisbrightstowe.org.

The DVD was produced by PR agency Montage Communications and digital video production company Podchains.

Aye mate! And welcome to limbo! Problem: I have no idea what page you're trying to work on. You need to define a body ID in the template, then turn on the necessary rows and columns in layout.css. Arrrrgh!
