The trip was organised by School Beat Officer PC Savage who currently works with Oasis Academy Brightstowe on behalf of the Avon and Somerset Police and Community Police Officer PC Perry, who works closely with Oasis Academy Bristol. It forms part of the ongoing work at both Oasis Academies to reward those students who show good behaviour, positive attitudes and a determined work ethic.
The nine students who attended from Oasis Academy Brightstowe were nominated by their Head of House for showing an all-round excellent performance this academic year and for making an outstanding positive contribution to life within the Academy.
PC Savage said ‘It is important that we reward good performance so that all students feel included and valued and continue to maintain high standards. This trip was a good opportunity to be involved in constructive activities recognising those students who are doing well.’
“Many of the students had never been karting before and they really enjoyed themselves. It was good to see students from both the Oasis Academies meeting each other. They got on very well, although there was some healthy competition, not to mention between myself and PC Perry!”
The students were taken by minibus to The Raceway indoor-karting arena in Avonmouth, where each was provided with lunch and refreshments before donning their helmets and jumpsuits and racing a practice lap to warm up.
The students then split into two teams representing their own Academy and drove three laps in order to clock their best personal time. Each student then volunteered their best lap times which were added together and averaged to create an overall lap time for each Academy team. It was a close call, but Oasis Academy Bristol was the fastest overall!
The next title up for grabs was that of fastest individual time of the day and that award went to Daniel Beaulieu from Oasis Academy Bristol who completed his lap in a speedy 40.82 secs. Marcus Heavens from Oasis Academy Brightstowe came in second-place with a great time of 40.98 secs and next in line on the podium was Sam Williams from Oasis Academy Bristol with a time of 41.13 secs.
The last race of the day was an eagerly anticipated contest between the police officers, which ended in a triumphant win for PC Perry who raced a modest time of 38.42 secs, beating PC Savage by a few seconds.

Aye mate! And welcome to limbo! Problem: I have no idea what page you're trying to work on. You need to define a body ID in the template, then turn on the necessary rows and columns in layout.css. Arrrrgh!
