Netball Girls Interviewed on BCfm 93.2

The Yr 11 girls and their teacher were invited onto the airwaves by Dean Blake, host of the monthly education show, to talk about winning the Bristol Schools Competition two years running and the future of the Academy netball team.

BCfm is the first community radio station in the city and is run completely by local Bristol residents. It broadcasts on subjects that affect the local community, as well as giving local people the chance to be on the air.

The studio is based in the Beacon Centre next to the City Academy in Lawrence Hill. Although the netball team have played plenty of fixtures there neither the girls nor Miss Kerslake had been on the radio before and were very excited, although nervous about speaking live.

As soon as Dean held his thumb up to signal that they were on air, the girls and Miss Kerslake were very professional, speaking clearly and enthusiastically about their experiences.

They explained that as a result of the girls winning the championship, Miss Kerslake stablished a link with Skybound Netball club, a Bristol based team who play in the Avon Netball League.

She has encouraged some of the Year 11 netball girls to train with the clubs junior team. Their team is called Lawrence Weston Youth Club and the girls now hope to go on to play for the senior teams of Skybound in the future.

This partnership has meant that the girls are going to attend a Young Leaders Netball Course to help them coach younger netball students at the Academy. Katie and Ellie talked about how they plan to use their coaching skills to develop a strong new Academy netball team and Miss Kerslake hopes they will be encouraging younger students to play at club level as well.

The interview went really well and everyone enjoyed the experience.

Aye mate! And welcome to limbo! Problem: I have no idea what page you're trying to work on. You need to define a body ID in the template, then turn on the necessary rows and columns in layout.css. Arrrrgh!
