Excellent Performance Merits Trip to LaserQuest

HSBC sponsored the trip which saw 80 pupils play in an ‘Inter-House Tournament’ as a reward for earning 100 or more merits during the autumn term of 2008.

In total, Oasis Academy Brightstowe awarded 28, 506 merits last term in recognition of excellent work and the pupils are being encouraged to strive for a similar level of success this term.

The trip was organised by School Beat Officer PC Savage who works closely with the academy and the local community as part of the ‘early intervention strategy’ devised by Avon and Somerset Police.

He said ‘It is important for the police to be involved in constructive activities with local schools so that all pupils feel included and valued. This trip was a good opportunity to spend time with pupils who are doing well at the local academy.’

According to Vice Principal Jo Simons, there was fierce competition on the day, as pupils battled it out with their laser guns, but eventually Moore House was declared victorious and Jack Skeltcher of Year 10 was the player who received the best scores.

She said, ‘The trip was a fantastic way to reward the children that made outstanding academic achievements last term and to motivate all pupils to maintain a level of excellence.

‘A good time was had by all and we would like to thank HSBC for providing the sponsorship that made this event possible.’
