The charity Oasis UK is a Christian organisation that was founded by Rev Steve Chalke M.B.E. in 1985. It began its work in the UK, but now delivers educational, healthcare and housing projects throughout the world. To find out more, click here.
Oasis Community Learning was set up in 2004 with the express purpose of developing the family of Oasis Academies. Oasis now sponsors 12 Academies across the UK, including Oasis Academy Brightstowe.
Academies are privately funded independent schools that were introduced by the Government in 2000 to challenge under-attainment and deliver a real improvement in educational standards.
Although the Academy's annual running costs and a large amount of funding for new facilities comes directly from the Central Government, Oasis Academy Brightstowe is privately sponsored by Oasis Community Learning, who are directly involved in deciding the school's vision and ethos and overseeing the day-to-day management of the Academy.
